Observer Corps

The League's Observer Corps functions as the eyes and ears of the League, observing public meetings and reporting back to the League. League action might result from some of these observations. Evanston's Observer Corps consists of members, who observe the City Council, the standing city government committees (Administration and Public Works, Human Services, Planning and Development, Referrals, and Rules Committee) and the other boards, committees and commissions.

If you are interested in being an observer for the LWVE, please email or call the League office at 847-859-7883.

The Daily Northwestern has compiled a comprehensive list of documents, terms, committees and other tools for you to reference before, during, or after you attend a local government meeting. This is a living document.

A comprehensive guide to Evanston City Council meetings

A large constellation of groups, both past and present, make up the city’s boards, commissions and committees, or BCCs. Each has its own unique purpose, powers and makeup. The Evanston RoundTable has compiled a simple introduction to Evanston’s BCCs: what they are, what they do, who sits on them, and how you could join one.
