LETTER FROM THE CO-PRESIDENTS
Hello, Members–

Welcome to Fall and to the opportunity to engage in League activities promoting voter education and registration.

September marked the beginning of the school year and provided the LWVE with an opportunity to introduce itself to students at Evanston Township High School at its annual volunteer fair. Together with other organizations, the Evanston League participated in the event and talked to dozens of students about the opportunity to volunteer at voter registration efforts and other League-sponsored events in the coming year.

The League’s championing of voter registration efforts at this event was timely. September 16 was National Voter Registration Day.  The League held voter registration drives at both the Evanston and Skokie public libraries.

Voter registration efforts continue in October. The League of Women Voters of the United States has partnered with Lush Cosmetics, which has agreed to host voter registration events in its stores across the country from October 4-12 in celebration of Voter Registration Week. Look for and tell your friends and family about a registration opportunity at a Lush store near you.

On Thursday, October 30, the League, Beyond Waste, and the Evanston Public Library will hold a facilitated discussion at the Library’s main Community Room on small changes you can make that responsibly reduce waste. This session will not be just educational, but also playful, encouraging participation. Mark your calendar and join us!

Finally, we are exploring the idea of holding a Community Dinner in the coming year featuring a speaker who will discuss issues impacting our ever-fragile democracy. It will be a fundraiser for our voter education activities. Stay tuned for more information in the coming months.

And if you are wondering how to become more involved in League activities, read the articles in this issue of the Intercom on Voter Services and on Big and Little Ways to Engage with the LWVE. We especially need help with planning our fundraiser. For more information, reach out to us at President@lwve.org

We look forward to working with you to Defend Democracy.
